While offering much of interest, this brief introductory book is hardly a biography of the Bible. The subject is much too complicated and nuanced for Armstrong's overview approach. While ostensibly providing a history of the Bible and its historical appropriation/interpretation, Armstrong has in fact constructed a narrative to support her claim that the Bible is not uniform in content, composition, or interpretation. I just read this book! I know, I know. . .I'd read probably about 2/3 of it in the past. I was quite familiar with most of the really memorable passages - many of them have served me as the touchstones. But there are parts of the book that are just so slow and uneventful.
