Take West Side Story and transport it to some more-Midwestern town and you have The Outsiders. Hinton creates a very real cast of characters and breathes life into the class struggle between the rich kids (the Socs) and the poor kids (the Greasers). After the weighty book I just read, I reached for the fluffiest book on my shelf.

This book was exactly what I need it to be - entertaining but requiring no real thought on my part. It's not as well written as the Shopaholic books, which I hold kind of dear to my heart, and it's certainly not as humorous, but it's a great book to read when you're coming off of something really heavy. Mindless, indulgent, and easily read in a few hours. ]]>
