We're wanting to get a better handle on what's really going on here in our new hometown of San Diego. The beautiful beaches, Sea World, the Zoo and Balboa Park are merely a veneer to the realities of this place. We see some of that in our neighborhood. I'm hoping this book sheds some light.

A good book, based on some compelling Foresster research. The face of social media is changing so quickly, many of the stats, and even the rules of engagement are changing rapidly. Still, it's a good primer on what social technologies are all about, and how to best engage and evaluate them.

A terrific little book that I read with my 8-yr old daughter. It took us awhile, as we took turn reading pages. It was well worth it though.

An animated film of this story a few years ago, which my daughter and I watched after we finished reading the book. Unfortunately, the film came nowhere CLOSE to representing the story in the book well. If you saw the film, clear your memory of it and read the book. It's well worth it.

There's many great themes going on in this book. Love. Perseverance. The value of the underdog, the unlikely an the under-sized. There's also some sobering themes of hate and abuse, and the terrible effect that can have. And then there's my favorite subtle theme woven throughout the book, that of lightness and darkness (a powerful part of the story completely missing from the film). DiCamillo did a masterful, if not understated job of weaving in the biblical theme of light and dark into the story.

I highly recommend this read with your son or daughter. Stefani and I are looking forward to the next book we can read together.

"The challenge facing Christianity today is not a lack of motivation or resources, but a failure of imagination." Author Jethani kicks off this interesting book with the idea that imagination is often a key element lacking from the current church-led Christian experience. In contrast to the way churches tend to lean on knowledge, information and skills to develop disciples, Jesus leaned more heavily on stories, imagery and imagination. Parables were his preferred medium, often weaving profound truths and ideas inside a story of everyday, ordinary things.

Jethani also weaves in stories from the life and art of Van Gogh, making this read an easy sell for me. Expressionism, the type of art later used to label the work of Van Gogh and some of his contemporaries, is one of my favorite periods in art history. Jethani describes how Van Gogh brought the seen and unseen realities of life and the world around us together with subject and color, style and technique. A spiritual sojourner, Van Gogh explored many deep and profound truths of life and God through his art, which Jethani brings to the surface.

I'm still only early on in this book, but I look forward to what's ahead.
