This book deals with a lot of college student issues - figuring out who you are, figuring out who you are in relation to everyone else, where you fit in, binge drinking, casual sex, financial pressures, peer pressure, etc. that aren't necessarily sorority issues. I wasn't in a sorority, but after reading this book, it seems that the sorority world amplifies these issues because sororities tend to be insular and people in them don't really spend time with people outside of the sorority world, and can develop a herd mentality. I think a women's studies class could use this as a text to discuss how women treat each other, and how they think of themselves as well.

I loved this book. I was surprised I liked it as much as I did. I would recommend it, I couldn't put it down. The way the author puts down words on the page is lovely, and I like how the story is told from each of the main character's point of view which made you feel like you were getting the full experience of knowing what the characters were thinking, feeling, etc. The story takes place in Africa and life in the Congo. I liked this book. I wouldn't say it was a happy book, it is truly heartbreaking and hopeless at times. Watching a marriage unravel slowly is painful, but I think the story is timeless, and I would say its worth reading. ]]>
