I am giving this book credit, in spite of the fact that the first two sections ("Blank" and "Another Country") are not in the same vicinity of "Letters from Elsewhere" or the last section "Elsewhere."

The "Letters from Elsewhere" section demonstrates Niedecker, a real devotional kind of reading that has been applied with wonder. There is something to "lines" in this book that intrigues me. A little less than tidy. Loose spills into the next. Some capitalization helping with the weird laps.

The book winds up being tamer in subject than in some of its approaches. A score to settle with Mormonism ["the bounty of Thy beautiful 12-pack":] or something, as visited upon the Horizon. Repeat after me, I do not like Salt Lake City.

Phrases, yes. Lots of phrases in this one. He chucks the sentence for "immediacy" but this begins to feel pretty routine. A sentence can become pretty immediate when you lose sight of them. Land ho.

I kind of like how the book becomes a collection of poems that try to find ways to push phrases through space and escape gravity [you know, bored by page 11:]. Here I think "the poetic" works against poetics. Young talks A Lot about making but the subject allows for some predictable moves. As with the typical Fence book, a serial poem enumerated [Stilt 8, Stilt 8.5, Stilt that made me want to cut my toenails:] stuck in the middle of the book as a way to make this look like a new book. Not a new book, but not a bad one. The highlight for me was a Frost Headslap ("Outside of Inner Ovenbird"), just enough to make me smile and want to write 20 poems making fun of Robert Frost.
