I like this SO MUCH BETTER than the last two books. The pacing was right on and we got to see a lot more of Eric and Sookie. I wish there had been more Pam, but I was glad Quinn and Alcide were reduced to footnotes in Sookie's life. There was one point in the book where Harris brought up a fact about the fairies and I could swear that it hadn't been mentioned before, so I think the editing might have suffered in that section. All in all, I thought this book was so fun to read that I finished it in 5 hours. (less)

This book took forever to get going and I kept falling asleep everytime I'd try to plow through it. I think maybe I should have just put the book away and forgotten about it.
I generally like the chick-lit genre, but in my old age am getting fed up with the stories about girls straight out of college who don't know their own minds and act like useless ninnies. Then I heard about Cathy Kelly and what several people described as "chick-lit for those of us in our 30s." In this case, that translates to, "chick-lit for people who are obsessed with babies b/c that's all that matters to a woman in her 30s."
Strangely, the only story in this book about the intersecting lives of several Irish women that I wanted to actually read was about a young woman straight out of college. Sadly, the author viewed this storyline almost as an afterthought and as the book wrapped up, she nearly abandoned the story ... only to add in a couple of pages at the end to tie things all together.
Overall, I'd say this book was probably conceived well but poorly executed on and edited even worse. I'll give Kelly another chance because I'd read another of her books years ago and liked it, but this one was a stinker.(less)

It's been awhile since I've read Maeve Binchy so I forgot what an amazing story teller she is. I could have done without some of the storylines, but was very intrigued by the two main characters and how their lives were intertwined. While the ending isn't what I would have hoped for for them, Binchy did an excellent job of writing it such that even though I didn't love the ending, I never thought, "I don't like this book."(less)

I finished re-reading this book a couple of weeks back and I understood it so much better this time because I wasn't sitting up for a marathon reading session, blurry-eyed and exhausted. The horcruxes vs. the hallows storyline made much more sense this time around and I understood Harry's intentions much better. Hermonione and Ron also seemed to be better friends to Harry than I had initially thought. The only thing I would have wanted from this was to see another book that shows Harry & Ginny and Hermione & Ron growing up and having their own little wizards. The "several years later" paragraph felt like a big rip off for those that have been rooting for these kids for years.(less)

This book was put in our "non-work-related" library at work and I took it home with me over the holidays for what I thought would be a fun, quick read, a la The Devil Wears Prada or Everyone Worth Knowing. Alas, it was not. I hated ALL of the characters and couldn't bring myself to care about the outcome of anyone. I finished it because I felt I had to, but I wish I would have spent that time reading some other good chick-lit book instead.(less)
