The Lost Conspiracy is one of those challenging books that so thoroughly creates an entire world, that it often takes a couple hundred pages to figure out what is what and who is who. The heart of the story is a revenge tale of two sisters, who are being hunted because of their background and race. One sister is grounded and determined, the other has a unique ability to go beyond her own mind and physical body and can travel all over, including into other people. As the sisters try to escape their predator, they encounter some like minded folks who rally to their cause.

As I mentioned, this is a very thought out world, and a great story. There are a couple of twists, and I like the idea of a girl-revenge story. 3.5 stars

Just finished Volume One of the Mice Templar, and I am impressed. Great artwork and a very dark story line make for good reading. It is a little confusing at times to keep the characters straight, but the core of the story is honoring beliefs even when things are dark and not going your way.
Looking forward to the next volume
3.5 stars

Great retelling of the Robin Hood legend, including a back ground story of how Robin came to the bow. Excellent art work, and the actually conclusion (sorry i'm watching the exciting tv show version that never really resolves itself) was good.

An exciting new novel from Westerfeld will make fans of Airborn thrilled. Two different teens, one hiding her true identity, the other on the run from the Germans, find their lives intwined. Set against the back drop of WWI, the story uses both elements of history but also pulls from an alternate reality where the Darwinists have figured out to bred animals to take on new roles and the rise of mechanics age. Very exciting!
4 1/2 stars

A typical quest story with a few twists beautifully laid out wonderful images. Two children must try to save the world from the evil elves who only to corrupt and rule. There is an amulet which both grants power and also corrupts the wearer, so the plot reads like LOTR-light. I liked the pairing of the house-machines as well as all the different animal mutations.
3 1/2 stars

Holy bananas! A welcome second volume in the Chaos Walking series turns dark fast. Todd effing Hewitt and Viola battle against the Mayor and many other enemies. This book is dark, scary, at times brutal, but really good. I wasnt thrilled with the last couple of pages, but they do set up book 3.
4 1/2 stars

The latest Dan Brown novel passed through my hands last week and was enjoyable. Very fast paced, in fact a little annoying that everyother page was a new chapter, but still good. The twist near the end was fun and helped make things make sense. It felt a little too movie ready, but whatever...
3 1/2 stars

The last of my official beach reads this year carried into the next week; its amazingly difficult to balance reading with little people in the house.
Multiple murders set the stage for a possible serial killer at the Washington newspaper. Writer Joe Wilcox finds himself in the midst of all the action.
Very enjoyable, with a easy lobs but also a couple of twists I didnt see coming.

An author is killed, a man is accused of the crime, and some dudes go to trial over it. I really enjoyed this book more than the Lincoln Lawyer, which I also just finished. But unfortunately reading back to back courtroom dramas made this fall a little flat.
