the premise was fascinating. i love (guiltily) psychological mysteries, and this one kept me turning pages. i felt, though, that so much of the middle was just filler; that the same story could've been told, just as compellingly, with just the first chapter, assorted clues from the middle, and the last chapter. it's been three months, and scenes from this book are still living inside my head. also, it's one of those with multiple storylines / narrators, and usually that annoys the hell out of me because as soon as i'm wrapped up in one storyline, the narrative switches - but for whatever reason, it didn't bother me here. maybe because all the characters were interesting?
also, diana was awesome. totally the type that i fall in love with (confident and complicated). and chloe and oscar were rather unbelievable as people, but i loved them anyway.
you see? you see? it is only a really great author who gets you to love his characters.(less)
