Fast-paced, often funny, and predictably formulaic fantasy adventure ruined by too much fan service. I tend to expect some when I read shonen manga, but there was so much in this one that it often threw me out of the story. Also, Lucy doesn't get enough chances to kick ass. I did generally like the main characters (along with Lucy, there's also Natsu and Happy).

(Side note: another impressive translation effort by William Flanagan; the cultural notes are especially useful for this one, due to some of the humor.) ]]>
