This was a very enjoyable and heartfelt story about the relationship between women and their housekeepers in the South during the sixties. Stockett tells her story from different characters' points of view, which gives a well-rounded account of life in this small town.

I don't typically read stories about wartime, but this book that takes place in Leningrad at the beginning of World War II had so much more to offer than typical war stories. It explored the human side of the war, and how people change in a time of just trying to survive.

Who knew that a story about the plague in 1600s England would be a captivating and interesting read? I was expecting a depressing and bleak story, but the author created an uplifting story about a down-trodden woman finding her strength among tragic circumstances.

The novel is loosely based on a true story of a village that chose to shut itself off from the rest of the world when the plague hit them.
