I loved Superfreakonomics (and Freakonomics, too) because of the way it makes you reconsider things you thought you already knew. Facts are put into a larger or different context and then used as answers to questions you hadn't even thought to ask. This is not a book about changing your mind, but opening it up: even though you can prove that walking home drunk is more dangerous than driving drunk, you still know not drive home from the party. But it still makes you think, huh? Intricate little gem of a book. Starts mainstream, turns into a mystery, and then becomes science fiction. I figured it all out before Miranda did, but of course I'm not in the fourth grade.... A pretty good mystery, interestingly told from the point of view of a junior lexicographer who is learning the ropes of his geeky new job: defining words for the dictionary. The letters and phone calls from readers and word-nuts are too hilarious to be made up and could only come from Ms. Arsenault's real life stint as a lexicographer herself.
