'Tis the lot of doctoral students, multi-tasked reading... Notice how few novels I put in there.
I keep them straight by a "mapping" and cross-referencing technique that mostly works, but sometimes I'm, like, "Where did that come from?" But the mapping seems to help. it's not so much a "photographic memory" thing as more like a "photokinetic memory" thing, which means that engaging with the text through marginal comments and symbols tends to cement it in my memory.
Mostly.
As for all the books on writing: that's a "enjoyment study" thing I'm doing on the side where I read one chapter out of each book each day. I'm a little behind on my "schedule" on that, but really enjoying it, especially Milan Kundera's The Curtain.
Fun process filling in the list. And I only did current stuff and what I read during my first year of study!
