This is another winning book from Miss Mae! Lots of intrigue with a sweet romance!

Miss Mae has developed believable personalities in her characters and wonderful mystery twists that I love about her books! As with the other wonderful books I have read by Miss Mae, she provides several suspects for the danger and trouble that abounds. This makes her books so much fun as you try to figure out the true villain because it isn’t always whom you first suspect! There are hints but some of them are hidden!

There was a point midway that was a bit slow for me, but do not worry! Soon the action starts up and the mystery gets moving full force. Then the book just flies by as you read to find out what happens! Miss Mae writes wonderfully sweet mysteries that can be enjoyed by everyone. Pick this up for a good mystery read!

5 of 5 - a Top Read at BTL
This was such a wonderfully charming and enjoyable read! I chuckled at the dry wit and pondered the twist and turns of the mystery.
....
The writing flows beautifully with the characters fitting perfectly in the historical time period and setting. If you love mysteries (especially Sherlock Holmes fans) and historical romance, even Gothic, you couldn’t help but love this. And if you don’t necessarily read those genres, but want to try something different, I enthusiastically recommend this book for a very fun puzzler and sweet romance!

This final book in the trilogy adds the new facet of dealing with the social aspects of surviving as a small group. Each of the other survivors, with their different talents and personalities, brings an additional dimension and added interest to the story. Not only do Kate and Jason have to deal with basic survival needs, but now they have to deal with secrecy, distrust, jealousies, leadership struggles and other emotional aspects of society -albeit a small society!

The author continues this fantastical world with more unusual terrains, environments and dangerous creatures. One very interesting terrain in this book is a low gravity canopy that hangs above the thick and menacing forest. Think of a trampoline surface and a chase by predators reminiscent of dinosaurs and Owl–Men who may be leading Kate and Jason to a way out… or not!

This is a fast paced, twisting mystery! If you like the Alex Cross series you will like this series as well! In addition to reading Alex Cross books, I have listened to some on tape and I could just hear this story in my head with the same narrator and intensity!

The writing is tight and crisp with a tone perfect for a private investigator mystery. In addition to the solid mystery, the author does a wonderful job with background descriptions including details of the smells and sights surrounding Hannibal.

This was my first Hannibal Jones read but won't be my last. Although it is part of a series I found it was fine to jump into this book. Reading earlier stories might flesh out the relationships between Hannibal and Cindy and some of the other working friends but I didn’t feel I was missing anything. It was a very good read.
