I know this was a translation so maybe its not the author's fault bit the dialogue is so stilted and unnatural. The characters are cliched and inconsistent. The plot is muddled and the resolution is completely ridiculous.

Anthony Marra
“But there had to be a quota. An upper limit to the number of miracles one is privileged to in a lifetime. How many times can a beloved reappear?”
Anthony Marra, A Constellation of Vital Phenomena

Rafael Sabatini
“If the windmill should prove too formidable," said he, from the threshold, "I may see what can be done with the wind.”
Rafael Sabatini, Scaramouche

Joe Hill
“Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be kicked in the nuts as soon as they try to get back up. That wasn’t in the Bible, but maybe it should’ve been.”
Joe Hill, Horns

Joe Hill
“Him and God are supposed to be at war with each other. But if God hates sin and Satan punishes the sinners, aren’t they working the same side of the street? Aren’t the judge and the executioner on the same team?”
Joe Hill, Horns

Rafael Sabatini
“To deal justice by death has this disadvantage that the victim has no knowledge that justice has overtaken him. Had you died, had you been torn limb from limb that night, I should now repine in the thought of your eternal and untroubled slumber. Not in euthanasia, but in torment of mind should the guilty atone. You see, I am not sure that hell hereafter is a certainty, whilst I am quite sure that it can be a certainty in this life; and I desire you to continue to live yet awhile that you may taste something of its bitterness.”
Rafael Sabatini, Scaramouche
