The women characters didn't ring true for me. Or, maybe I just would never hang out with artists with Earth Mama feminist streaks that describe themselves as a tribe of small, fierce women. (And the gentle, sensitive men that love them!)
I did like the parts of the story about The People, though I had a passing thought if their depictions depended on stereotypes of Native Americans being wise, laconic background figures.
This was my first Newford novel, and I'm not inspired to read others. ]]>

Cheesier and sillier than the first. You know when a band owes the label one more album in their contract, and it sounds like the band, but its this uninspired thing they rattled off in an afternoon? It felt like that. ]]>
Great ideas. I've been exploring the idea of the eating problem in America as a cognitive issue, so this was right up my alley.
I really had a problem with the writing/structure of the book, though. This book is split into these micro-chapters of a few pages. The ideas are so similar in successive chapters, I was left wondering why 3 or 4 of these mini-chapters weren't combined into one.
Still, the interruptions in narrative flow aren't prohibitively distracting. Also, this is my favorite book cover this year. ]]>

A quicker, funnier story than the TV series. ]]>
I guess I appreciated the story construction on an intellectual level, but this vision of dystopia wasn't particularly original and I'm not sure I gained anything from it. I wasn't emotionally tied to any of the characters and was underwhelmed by the climax and denouement. ]]>
