I've really enjoyed the other books I've read by Harrison though this is my first about Sunderson- I'm not sure a good way to start. Since Harrison passed away this last year,I felt a need to read this his perhaps last book.
Janet and 5 other people liked Marcus's review of Penrod:
Penrod by Booth Tarkington
"This is one of the funniest books I have ever read. The only way to do it justice is by quoting it:

After Penrod (the 11 year old hero of the story) blurts out something he might have kept to himself:
Nothing is more treacherous than the human mind;...

Amazing book- I couldn't put it down. It's suspenseful and well crafted. Wyld reverses time and place to tell her story. I recommend this one.

I was given this book during a long recuperation process this winter. I had never read anything by Nicolas Sparks before but I knew that many of his novels had been made into movies- specifically romantic and (forgive because I hate the term) "chic f ...more

This book was a recommendation of a goodreads friend. It is a quick and enjoyable read. There is so much teenage angst but how can a story be written about 2 sixteen year olds I love without it?

A challenging book to get through but extremely witty and worth the convoluted journeys to each punch line. I can see why DeVries was chummy with the likes of JD Salinger and was admired and quoted by Kingsley Amis. DeVries was no doubt influenced by ...more

This is an unsettling realistic book about an inner city girl and a woman who sets out to help her. The problem is figuring out who is helping who and unfortunately there isn't a clear happy ending. I gave it 4 stars because it was well crafted and w ...more

I'm still not convinced I like this book as much as the rating I gave it. I didn't mind the 2nd person narratives and flat emotions that sometimes came through. There were parts and narrators that grabbed me so I couldn't put it down but towards the ...more
Anne Perry and the Murder of the Century by Peter Graham
