A fairly good little fantasy book. Wasn't really blown away or anything, but it was pretty solid and it kept me somewhat captivated. For me, I would have liked it a tab bit darker. I like my fantasy books a little more grim, more hopeless. It makes the victory that much sweeter. That's just me. Regardless, I just ordered up the next 5 books, so my hopes for the series are high. ]]>

This series reminds me of those popular japanimation movies like Spirited Away or Princess Mononoke, etc. Everyone raves about them and says how great they are, but as I sit and watch them, I can't decide how I feel about them. Same with this series. They're beautiful books and the plot is very interesting. But there's also something weird about them. Hard to explain I guess. I guess that's why it's called "high" fantasy.
Anyhow, I really liked it ... I think. ]]>

This was my second time through the book and I really couldn't remember what happened, so I was surprised to find that the book wasn't that bad. Perhaps it's because book 10 was so bad or that book 12 is out now, but I was pretty satisfied with the progression of the story.
Finally, a few of the 95 different plot lines were completed. That's always been my biggest knock during the second half of the series. My other dislike is that Rand, Mat, and Perin have tended to be pushed into the shadows so we can follow the women around. Here we get great moments for all three, though the Rand-centric storyline is still sparse.
On the whole, it wasn't a great novel, but it was so much of an improvement over the past three books, that it was extremely refreshing. ]]>

With book 12 coming out in a few weeks, I decided to reread the last couple books in the series again. This is my third time through this one and it's quite a shame since it's probably the worst in the series. I love the series, but it certainly lost something in the latter half.
The most disappointing thing is that, though Jordan claimed time and time again that this was to be a twelve book series, nothing happened in this book. There is no possible way he could have finished this in two more novels. Rather than tie up any story lines, it feels like he is stalling. No one even moved.
Even worse, I've come to expect a great battle at the end of these books. As far as I can remember, the endings of the other 9 books were great, event if the books themselves were not. It's like the movie Phantom Menace, where a sweet battle scene at the end makes up for a lousy movie (though none of the books fall to that level).
Anyways, I'm glad this series is coming to an end soon. It feels like Jordan would have extended it to 20 books or 30 books and never been able to give it up. Anyone thinking about reading this series, DO IT! It really is a great series and an epic accomplishment. I know it will end great. A few of the books are misses, but it's entertaining none the less. ]]>

Not a bad little popcorn book. The random historical factoids are fun, even if not always accurate. Wasn't a huge fan of the ending, but that's just me. On the whole, one of the best The Da Vinci Code ripoffs I've read. ]]>

I'm so glad you like the Sanderson books. He's definitly my fav right now. All his books are so good, and he's the best author I've seen as far as communicating to the fans. His blog and the borders blog and his writing excuses site are really interesting and informative.
Now you need to pick up Elantris. It's quite possibly my favorite of the bunch :) ]]>
