I guess I just don't get J.D. Salinger. The Catcher in the Rye didn't really do it for me either, but I wanted to give him a second try with this book. I tried reading this book a couple years ago and lost interest in it about a hundred pages in. I was determined to finish it this time. Perhaps my expectations were too high for this book (I had heard about it from a lot of people and am a big cat lover), but I was somewhat underwhelmed by the actual content of this book. The first third of this book was almost physically painful for me to read, I found the main characters so insufferable. I find it difficult to articulate how great I think this book is. It was funny, inspiring, moving and heartbreaking. I highly recommend it to anyone, particularly someone interested in education and literacy. ]]>
