Gaskell's book s are very wordy (lots of description) so I found it nice to see the movie first. It helps me push through when I have an idea of what's coming. This book is kind of like Pride and Prejudice for me. I could read or see the story a hundred times without getting bored! There is a scene in that movie that will just melt you. Think of me when Mr Thornton says, "Look back, look back at me." Sigh.

Annoying, unlikable characters who make stupid decisions. I hate books like this. A really engaging book. I felt a little deceived at the end. Like the author was purposely not telling me things so that, at the end, he could say, "Voila!"
