If you read and liked Snowflower and the Secret Fan, you will enjoy this book too. It takes place in China and is actually a historical novel. I read it quickly. It is a quick read and interesting. The book has very high ratings across goodreads but I couldn't give it a "4". There are better books that you can read. Story revolves around a twenty something Kentucky woman, who ends up with a 3 year old Cherokee Indian girl (really? you just take a kid someone hands you? You don't go to the police)? Really good book -- 4 short stories. The book is 350 pages long. All 4 stories are told from the perspective of a child living in an African country. It's the human side to the stories that read about in the newspaper or see on tv.
