I wish there was a 3.5 option, and I'd choose that.
The book starts off slow and almost confusing, adding more and more story lines and characters until you start to wonder how it all comes together. Barbara Kingsolver has poetic writing, and her images are beautiful and solid. She paints a wonderful portrait of nature.
But her stories, to me, move a tad slow and aren't as magnetic as her images. All in all, I think it was a good read, though.

This book is touted as being funny, though I didn't laugh much at all....maybe I just have a poor sense of humor. :)
More than anything, it's uncomfortable and awkward how horrible the husband is and how insanely dumb he can be.
Still, I liked it for the setting - the Everglades - and for the entertaining characters.

This was a really good read, but I have to admit there were times I cringed at the painful treatment of some of the circus animals. You really form a relationship with the main character, who has been through so much emotionally and is going through so much throughout the book that almost seems unrealistic and unrelateable. Yet somehow, it's all captured in a way that seems real and historic. Even the somewhat cheesy ending worked for me.
All in all, a quick and fun read.
