"“I’m not saying that’s the best approach, but it’s almost unavoidable if you’re a journalist, stand-up comedian, or hyperactive yakker, as I am.” I think I'm going to like this book. So far, the writing style is witty & smooth. The chapters seem to be broken up between personal anecdotes and a "Try This" section where excellent questions are raised for those on the path for self-discovery." Sep 13, 2014 03:50AM

The anniversary edition of this book is simply wonderful. All of my children loved the song that this book depicts, but I never really liked it. I found the song monotonous and dull—which is why I was very surprised when I found myself picking up thi...more

This wasn't a bad book. In fact, it was decidedly okay. The trouble was that it was a bit amateur for a tie-in licensed property. Not only did the story take sixty pages to get going, but there was banter that felt cold, flirting that had all the sub...more
Douglas Cootey is on page 36 of 83 of A Brewing Storm: Perfunctory style. Reads like a Patterson novel. Lots of concrete details with name brands or model numbers for military gear and vehicles. The Nikki Heat books seem to be written better. So far, not a lot of action. Half the book has been set up. I find myself wishing somebody would shoot something.

Very concise prose, almost terse, yet extremely descriptive. I've never read anything by this author before, but I'd heard of her in hushed, reverent tones. Now I understand why her work on the early Star Wars scripts was so phenomenal. She had been...more

“Prejudices, it is well known, are most difficult to eradicate from the heart whose soil has never been loosened or fertilised by education: they grow there, firm as weeds among stones.”

“O my poor old Harry Jekyll, if ever I read Satan's signature upon a face, it is on that of your new friend.”
Robert Louis Stevenson, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

“The remedy for most marital stress is not in divorce. It is in repentance and forgiveness, in sincere expressions of charity and service. It is not in separation. It is in simple integrity that leads a man and a woman to square up their shoulders and meet their obligations. It is found in the Golden Rule, a time-honored principle that should first and foremost find expression in marriage.”
