I love reading Dan Brown novels because he sure knows how to write a dang good thriller! I couldn't put The Lost Symbol down. I still don't like it as much as The Da Vinci Code, but I thoroughly enjoyed how intense and fast paced it was. I liked all the cool "de-coding" and figuring out the next clue moments. There was some really interesting information about the Masons and Noetic Science. Even though I don't believe all of it, there were some elements of truth that I found really fascinating.
Oh, and there were only two VERY brief moments where Mormons were mentioned (not even in a full sentence by themselves). Both times they were used as an example, once was along with a whole BUNCH of other religions. This book had absolutely nothing to do with Mormons or LDS temples or anything remotely directly related to the church. It was predominantly about Masons and their practices.
Overall, this was a good, kind of predictable at times, thriller. Langdon's skepticism was getting kind of annoying towards the end, and, personally, I thought the frequent “inner-thoughts” of several of the characters throughout the entire novel was getting to be a little much, but other than that, it was a fun, partially educational, fast read. Wow, I want to go to D.C. now!
