Alice is a talented writer. Her travels are realistic and optimistic. Living abroad appeals to me and it's just the kind of thing I'd do or may someday do if the timing came together. She wraps into her travels expressions of various authors she's been inspired by. Several I haven't heard of. It offers me a launch pad of curiosity to explore something new, new authors that is. ]]>

I don't think I've very good at reading these LDS books. I've only read a few here and there and so far they aren't my cup of tea. The first part of the book where the main character acting as the voice meets and dates her future husband kept my interest until she made a complete fool of herself and I thought it was a wacky attempt to stereo type the single LDS woman who missed the marriage proposal at BYU. Being single myself, I don't like the association. ]]>

I didn't make it all the way through before I had to return it to the library. Getting to know the main character wasn't uplifting but insightful. ]]>

I was happy for her and admired her open heart to receive additional gospel truth into her life. That part of her story did seem real.
Other than that, I thought I was going to vomit as I listened on CD to her undignified submission to her husband. The fact that she's decades younger than him is disgusting to me, although there wasn't any impropriety in the nature of the book. She disappoints me to think that women may have held this husband/wife mentality during the 1800's era. I don’t think this 1800 Cinderella Story is real. I just don’t buy it.
