I considered giving this two stars because I'd given all the previous Hit books three stars, and this one wasn't quite as good as some of its predecessors, but . . . they're all close enough, so three it is. The story (stories, actually; all intercon ...more

Psycho killer on the loose. Suspense. Retired cop on his tail. This story has been told a million times and will be told a million more, but King could put his own spin on the phone book, and make it interesting. I notice that as King ages, his prota ...more

Free on Amazon, and worth every penny. I would've given it two stars because it does contain some basic common sense information, but it loses one for multiple typos. That's inexcusable for something published, no matter what the price.

I struggled with this. On the one hand, the descriptions of life in the DPRK were haunting and powerful. On the other hand, with the shifting narration, the jumps backward and forward in time, and the almost poetic writing style, it was very difficul ...more

This was recommended (and loaned to me) by a friend; when I read the back cover, I thought I'd wind up reading a chapter and then stopping. Si-fi/fantasy isn't my cup of tea.

I wound up reading it in just a few days. It's been a while since I read a

Grisham did a nice job in returning to the scene of "A Time to Kill." This was my first time listening to an audio version of a printed novel, and Michael Beck did an outstanding read through. The story was a little predictable, but it hummed along a ...more

Sometimes more emotion can be packed into a short story than what's found in the longest of novels. This is one of those times. DeMille tells a tale, in the first person, about a patrol in Vietnam. In just a few pages, he creates tension, fear, and s ...more

Another really good spy/adventure novel from Follett, this one set in WWII Egypt. I've never started a book of his that didn't grab me immediately, and keep me entertained until the the end. He's also one of the few "big authors" who can actually wri ...more

Few, if any, can do short stories like King can. These run the full gammit, and the last two stories are about as far apart in tone as they could possibly be. The penultimate story, about a "fireworks war," was funny, light, clever, and amusing, whil ...more

When I checked this novella out, I didn't realize that it was a John Corey story. As an added bonus, it's a pre-Plum Island story, though it was written (or at least published) many years after Plum Island. So, it's a prequel of sorts: A tale of John ...more
