Mike Lupica writes another terrific sports themed book. In the book Heat Michael Arroyo, a 12 year baseball fanatic, plays on a little league team. Born in Cuba Michael has lost his mother to cancer when he was young. His father brought him and his brother to America. Now having the chance to take his team to the Little League World Series his dreams can come true. Michael is unusually good for a 12 year old, and of the other coaches is accusing Michael of being too old. There is secret that Michael has to keep otherwise it might be trouble for him, his family, and baseball team. His dream is to play for the New York Yankees, with Yankee stadium right down the street from his house it could be a dream come true. Michael meets this girl that changes his life but little does he know she is more important than he thinks. I think that Heat was an excellent book. It depicts what is like to be on a Little League team and I can relate because I played on Little League team myself when I was younger. The struggles Michael and his brother go through in the book kept me interested in every page. Mike Lupica did a great job on describing the Bronx and also Yankee Stadium, I felt like I was there. The heat of the sun of the pavement against bear feet was one of the descriptions Mike Lupica made. Overall if you enjoy sports books I recommend Heat to everyone

Twisted is another great book by Laurie Hasle Anderson.Once again she depicts the life of a student in high school, and his life in and out of school.Twisted is about Tyler Miller who was geek turned stud over the summer. Thanks to the "foul deed" he committed he had to work at a landscaping job for community service. Its his senior year and things are going good for him, the girl hes always had a crush on likes him, hes living on cloud 9.Untill everything turns for the worse.

Twisted is a book I think meant for guys to read it. Laurie Anderson did an great job describing the average 17 year old's life the pressures of school, parents, durgs, and peer pressure.Anybody who enjoys books by Laurie Anderson will enjoy this book because its detailed to where you can put yourself in tyler's shoes and to where you know what he is going through.

I'm usually disappointed in the endings of books, but not this one it had me glued to every page. I advise anybody who is a teenager and goes to high school to read this book.

Ken Follett, best known for his novels of political espionage such as The Hunt for Red October and Patriot Games, steps into a new genre with his epic saga, The Pillars of the Earth. Set in England during the latter part of the 12th century, Pillars presents a sweeping tale of medieval feudal life. The story centers around Prior Philip, a sincere and devoted monk who desires to honor God through the building of a cathedral. The plethora of characters whose lives readers will follow include citizens of all classes. From the stoic and humble Tom Builder to the menacing Bishop Waleran, the members of the cast will continue to compel you throughout the story.
Pillars of the Earth is a massive undertaking and Follett’s audience includes a wide variety of reading appetites. Those who fancy a tale of romance will enjoy the love story of clever Jack Jackson and the beautiful Lady Aliena. Those who delight in works of historical fiction, as well as those who have an interest in the architectural genius of medieval masons and carpenters will enjoy the author’s careful research. The villainous William Hamleigh will raise the ire of each reader, and the independent Ellen will inspire.
In the end, Follett is a master artisan of a first rate story. While Pillars of the Earth is close to 1,000 pages, I never once grew bored with the beautifully woven story. Follett’s descriptions of landscapes, characters, and events are painted vividly, carrying me away from 21st century small town life to the streets, fields, and buildings of 12th century England. In fact, I enjoyed this read so much that when the sequel to this magnificent tale, World without End, appeared on bookstore shelves, I not only bought a copy but also decided to reread Pillars so that I could experience once again the adventures, peaks, and valleys of the characters. It was definitely worth a second read, and I look forward to beginning World without End!
(less)

Matt de la Pena, who wrote movie worthy book Ball Don't Lie. It is about a seventeen year old white boy named Sticky who is a foster kid whose talent at basketball surprises and impresses people all around him. And his struggles with life, friendss and family. Even though he couldn't find a permenant home he finds one at the gym, where he lives and breathes basketball. The Story takes place in the mean streets of California. I enjoyed this book thoroughly, because i'm a big sports fan when it comes to books. But if I had recommended this book to anybody who enjoys basketball books.
