As usual her prose is musical and her characters well-wrought, but the plot is lacking. I might have enjoyed this more if I had re-read Oryx and Crake, but then again what is there to enjoy about the apocalypse?

The foundation of the lasting Bronte myth by a woman at odds with her own sense of authorship and femininity. As others have mentioned, the edition is key. After the first edition, numerous edits and additions were made to please a number of players (Bronte's father, husband, and Harriet Martineau etc.). The best parts are by far when Gaskell steps away long enough to include Charlotte's letters and we can hear and see her for ourselves.

Witty and delightful, especially for those of us who tend to lean more towards literature than comics. This really does show the power of comics, the breadth of the medium. The shorter pieces - the parody of Candide and The Stranger - are the strongest, because I think Sikoryak is more expressive here. He's not as bogged down in fully representing a long and complex story, but rather captures the essence of a classic work of literature, distills it down to it's recognizable elements and then runs nuts with it. Very well done.

Casagranade's collection of grammatical suggestions and stories are infinitely useful. She certainly cleared up a few misconceptions I had about particular grammatical structures and helped me understand why other phrases just sounded wrong to me. However the humor here often feels labored, which is a shame because when she's "on" she's absolutely hilarious. A solid piece of informative distraction.
