Hands down one of the greatest books I have ever read and as of yet, the best I've read by Stephen King.

I fail to understand for the life of me how anyone could give this book less than 4 stars (if not 5). All I can think of is that those people have either rushed the book (which is easily done as it's quite a short read) or they have simply failed to grasp the meanings behind the themes that King explores. As for the 'southern accent' which the book is written in, don't let that put you off - I was annoyed at first but after a few pages you completely forget about it. Take your time, concentrate fully on Dolores' story and you'll find that you'll start to question aspects of human nature that you never even thought existed before.

For me, it was one of those rare books that actually made me stop and think whilst reading and I even found myself questioning my own actions had I been in the place of Delores.

The character of Delores Claiborne herself is one of the main factors that makes this novel such a triumph. In her, King has managed to create one of the greatest, most believable narrators that I have ever come across in a story of this kind.

From the opening pages, I went from loathing her bold southern way of speech and downright awkwardness to fully cheering her plight by the end. I also like how the reader's relationship with Delores is reflected perfectly in the attitude of the team who are questioning her as the book progresses.

I suggest that everyone should read this, especially if you aren't usually a fan of Stephen King as I can safely say this is nothing like any of his other novels.
