another book to read as I prepare for my Kenya trip. I've been told that this book gives a pretty definitive description of all that Kenya has been through and elucidates why the country is, the way it is today, due to all that it has endured.

I'm also reading this in preparation for my Kenya trip. It talks about how civil society organizations, such as NGO, enter the political fray in their countries and aid or abet in their community's democratization processes. It contrasts two Kenyan NGOs and their politicalization (or lack thereof) approaches to ensuring democratization. It's well-written, fascinating, and offers critical commentary and insight. This is worth picking up, even if you're not going to Kenya! It's a good read for anyone interested in the possible intersections between NGOs and the government (or politics).

I just finished this last weekend. I read it in preparation of my trip to Kenya in November/December. Though it could have benefited from having a better editing job, many of the essays had great ideas for delivering better, more sound, and more consistent healthcare services throughout the African continent. As a non-medical student, I think this gave me a sufficient, broad understanding and appreciation of the complexities inherent in healthcare delivery and management systems.

what a surprise. I read this for my october book club meeting, and originally, I thought the book would be a drag. i don't read much sci-fi or vampire anything, but man, was i wrong. this was such a blast to read and even more fun to talk about. this was one of those types of books where any time i could steal away 5 minutes to read a couple pages, i would. definitely worth the $4 for the mass market paperback version i bought! a great story to read in the eerie backdrop of halloween :)
