I wasn't sure if I could get into this book. It was written in Swedish and then translated to English. Various terms in the novel are different from American ones. Also, being pregnant, my brain doesn't really have much space for storing complicated facts, etc. (Really really sad, I know!) However, I pushed myself through the first 50 pages are so and it turns out that this book is really hard to put down. I really enjoyed it. I would definitely say that it is not for the lighthearted. It has some pretty graphic rape scenes in it as well as dealing with some disturbing issues. I am curious about the next book though. A beautiful-profound and haunting story. I absolutely LOVED it. I will agree that it was a bit dark, but really, nothing compared to some of the other stories that I read. I just found such insight and realization in reading this story. Life is not always how we plan or expect for it to be. Bad things can happen. But, we do have a choice in how we handle those things.

I was so moved by this book - truly. The most profound message that I came away with is actually summed up pretty well by the author in a interview printed at the end of the book. She says " It's weird to succeed . . . and realize that in the midst of your failure, you were slowly building the life that you wanted anyway." This quote ties back to a statement in the book on page 320 (first paragraph)in which the main character makes a statement about the way her life, her family's life, etc. are shaping up. AWESOME!!! Amazing! Clever, suspenseful, upsetting, romantic, brilliant!! If I could give it more stars I would. I LOVEEEEDDD it!! I too cannot wait for the next one to come out.
