I consume books like this one very slowly, so it will be on this shelf for a while. This is not a read and go book. This is a "weave this into your life" book. So far, I have to give it a top rating. If you are a communicator on any level, if you need to transfer understanding to other people, this book was written for you.

Formative years. That's where I was in life when the movie, "To Kill A Mocking Bird", came out. My older brother and sister and I saw it together. That alone makes it a cherished memory. Growing up in the home of a proud, white, southerner, the story had a deep and lasting effect on my understanding and my convictions about those with completions that are darker than my own. When I finally got around to actually reading "To Kill A Mocking Bird" in high school it reaffirmed my simple childhood notions that when it comes to matters of law, and of right and wrong, things like the shade of one's skin simply has no bearing.

To understand where we are in history requires understanding where we have been. This book stands tall among those that tell us, plainly and strongly, where we have been. I would place it high on my "required reading" list.
