<about>6/04: Just got a Kindle & am busy playing with the new toy - 1st impression is good.

I've loved reading since I was a child - and I inculcated a love of reading in my children. I’m not a reading snob; though I do like some of the classics - most of them put me to sleep. My favorite genre is Science Fiction, specifically ‘hard’ SF – but I also enjoy reading a good non-fiction history book or a good historical fiction. Other than SF, I enjoy some ‘action/adventure’ novels. I don’t read mysteries, horror, most fantasy, or westerns. I have never read a romance novel. I am a frustrated writer who would love to write the Great American Novel, but never will.
I was born in Texas and raised as a Navy brat in California, Washington, Texas, and Hawaii. After a year in college, I joined the Navy myself and flew as a crewmember on the mighty Lockheed P-3 Orion hunting Soviet submarines for much of my 21-year career. My Navy years were exciting, memorable, and rewarding. I achieved the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer in fourteen years. My last tour of duty happened to be at the Naval Weapons Support Center, Crane, Indiana, where I retired in 1991.
I started my second career at Crane as a Federal Civil Servant. My specialty was logistics and I served as the logistics manager for the U. S. Navy sonobuoy program for 17 years at Crane. In 2007 I left the civil service to open my own business (3rd career) with two fellow retired Navy Chiefs. Our business, Applied Logistics Services, Inc., provides technical and logistics support services to the Navy and Marine Corps.
I spend my off time stalking the wily Black Bass – the most noble of fish – and pretending to be a librarian on Goodreads.com. Correcting errors and cleaning up data in the Goodreads database gives me a lot of satisfaction and gives me something tp work on that I can actually see improve as time passes. Fish on!
</about>
