The End of Overeating tries to do a few different things: show how restaurants and manufacturers are engineering our food to carry as much fat, salt, and sugar as consumers can stomach, detail how the brain (both ours and animals) responds to sugary, fatty foods, and give suggestions on how to break out of the bad eating cycle. It will definitely make you want to avoid Chili's and Outback Steakhouse at all costs.

What I found most interesting was the inside look at the food makers. So many of their tactics mirror the tobacco industry. While Kessler never comes right out and states it, it all seems to imply that America's obesity epidemic is the end result of free market capitalism. You can move the most product when your customer is addicted and cannot eat in moderation.

The only reason I didn't give the book five stars is because, at times, I wanted more in depth exploration and facts. Kessler has structured the book in very very short chapters and sticks mostly to a conversational tone. I think this was a wise choice for getting a larger reading audience, though. (less) "
