I read Unwind shortly after finishing The Hunger Games. There were some similarities to the two books. Both have children fighting to stay a live. Unwind was a bit disturbing for me. I can't imagine choosing to send a child to be unwound. Shusterman has a knack of pull the reader into the emotions of the characters. There were times when I was reading this book that I just couldn't believe I was reading what I was reading. The whole idea of putting kids in a life or death situation and use that as entertainment was such a foreign idea and yet, the book was quite compelling and I found I had a difficult time putting it down. I enjoyed this modern day version of Beauty and the Beast. It was interesting to see how Flinn managed to weave in modern day items such as cell phones etc. This was a good example of how a character can change over time and make different decision. Parts of the story are not very believable but that was the fairytale piece of the story.
