I enjoyed this easy read about for students Grade 8 Up—More than 200 years in the future, Comet Bhaktul hurtles past Earth, leaving a deadly contagion in its wake. Bhaktul's disease threatens to annihilate the human race within a decade, but the mysterious illness only affects adults. Scientists worldwide scramble to find a cure, while one scientist proposes a controversial project to preserve humanity, should other efforts fail. Under Project Galahad, 251 teens are sent on a mission to reach a habitable planet free of Bhaktul's contamination. As Galahad enters space, the young people must deal with the intense pressure of saving humankind and the sadness of leaving their families behind. Sixteen-year-old Triana, the ship's commander, must manage daily operations while also dealing with her father's recent death. I enjoyed reading this book. I am looking forward to reading book 2.

Thanks for the offer. I just purchased it for our library. I'm going to read it before I put it out. I'm excited to know that you both like the second one better than the first. Let's compare notes after I finish it.
Michelle
I read Unwind shortly after finishing The Hunger Games. There were some similarities to the two books. Both have children fighting to stay a live. Unwind was a bit disturbing for me. I can't imagine choosing to send a child to be unwound. Shusterman has a knack of pull the reader into the emotions of the characters. Character development was a strong point in this book for me.

There were times when I was reading this book that I just couldn't believe I was reading what I was reading. The whole idea of putting kids in a life or death situation and use that as entertainment was such a foreign idea and yet, the book was quite compelling and I found I had a difficult time putting it down. By the end I realized that I can't wait to read book 2- Catching Fire.

I enjoyed this modern day version of Beauty and the Beast. It was interesting to see how Flinn managed to weave in modern day items such as cell phones etc. This was a good example of how a character can change over time and make different decision. Parts of the story are not very believable but that was the fairytale piece of the story. I would recommend reading this book.
