Calliope is a mag that covers world history topics for ages 9-14. If you want to write YA, this isn't a bad spot to consider starting with articles (and they pay 20-25 cents a word).

Ok, if my attention span were any shorter it'd match my current temperament... ;-) Ok, I loved McKinley's earlier stuff (Hero and the Crown & The Blue Sword) but this feels slow. She's building a neat "world" and good premise and lots of character, but it just hasn't fully caught me yet. Neil Gaiman (whom I LOVE) claimed it was "pretty much perfect." Maybe the not so pretty part of it was the beginning... I NEVER read stuff expecting "it's going to get better" but it IS Robin McKinley...right? ]]>
