My last book before school starts would, of course, be the first in a page-turning series! All I want to do now is stay up all night and read the next three books. A bit gory at times and certainly procedural, but I enjoyed it.

Meh. It's over. It was a bit too satisfying, actually. I felt like there needed to be some sacrifices, some ugliness. It was all just a bit too tidy in the end. The whole series is a bit too Twilight for me. Everything so beautiful and perfect. I'm s...more

Really hilarious!! I was glad to read this after we spent some time in France. It was a quick read and light-hearted - perfect for the long bus ride.

Not as compelling as the Child 44 trilogy, but it was pretty good. I skimmed a lot, though.

MUCH more enjoyable than A Discovery of Witches. I loved that this had more history and less (puke!) love. Actually, maybe I'm just better at skimming those parts. Eager to read the last book!

Truly laugh out loud funny. His bit on China was just revolting. The audiobook version was especially wonderful. It makes me want to see him live again!

REALLY GOOD. This was truly a page turner. Not for the faint of heart. The story is taut and intense. I had read somewhere that this was a series, and that annoyed me. However, this book stands alone. I can see where his other books might be headed....more

“I have always lived violently, drunk hugely, eaten too much or not at all, slept around the clock or missed two nights of sleeping, worked too hard and too long in glory, or slobbed for a time in utter laziness. I've lifted, pulled, chopped, climbed, made love with joy and taken my hangovers as a consequence, not as a punishment.”
