I like to pick a classic story to read with my 5th grader. And this is the one that we chose. But gosh the language is tough! I feel like I need a dictionary myself just to get through it. We just finished chapter one last night, so we'll see how it goes!

I enjoyed this book. But enjoy is not the word. It rang so true with me and allowed me to look closer at my own childhood. I want to read more of this memoir, I couldn't walk away from this little girl.

Is this a book that you still have? Can I borrow it?

I was listening to NPR this morning and they were saying that the Taliban has now closed and destroyed 200 schools in Afganistan. All girls schools.

This book was given to me by my neighbor, so I had no idea it was book 4 in a series. It is a big one too!

It was really good. I just ploughed right through it, because I couldn't put it down. And I just had to finish reading it so I could get on with the rest of my life!

I loved the characters of Claire and Jamie. But I felt the ending was kind of anticlimatic. I guess I just need to read book 5 and just keep going! I think my house will just be a mess!

I actually went to Lousia May Alcott's home this summer in Massachusetts. So after learning more about her, I was interested in reading one of her books that I hadn't heard of before.

This one is such a nice read. But it does remind me of some of her others. Someone dies (sorry if I ruined it for you), and there is unrequited love.

This is a second book and she did write one previous to this about "Rose " the main character and her growing up around all of these boy cousins.

It is a nice book, and I love reading these little insights to how people used to live.

Did you know the Alcott family was vegetarian?

I found this at my local library in the kids section. I love learning about other cultures and China is one that I haven't read that much about. What makes this story so great is that it is from the perspective of a young girl who loves Mao. She truly believes in the Communist Party. And does not begin to question any of it's activities until the Cultural Revolution. This is when the educated and knowledgable people of China were persecuted and questioned for their beliefs, and world views.

I really liked this book because it is a true story and a quick read. I actually couldn't put it down, I would be walking upstairs in my house and still reading!
