For some, the story of his conversion would surely spark controversy, and for me, personally, I feel as if there were dots Lang purposefully left out. I actually expected a more personal touch to the whole story but Lang then wallowed into the more technical stuff--such as explanation of Shariah, etc, which actually could be found in other books about Islamic teaching, and thus Lang offered nothing new (oh, except for the interpretation related to Freudian theories--that's new, and interesting!). But as a whole, it was an okay book and very readable.

reading it... totally agree with you. i wasn't a fan of self-enlightment book, too, but a friend spoke highly of this book, so had to read it, and surprised to find it really amusing, hehehe...

To Stephen:
"Humans still can’t fly! They can’t flap their arms to take off or even soar by the power of thought."

Yes, biologically, we can never fly. But we can create tools to make us fly. The same like we can never be transported to other place biologically, but we are trying to make tools that can make us transported to other place.

"If you know anything about Astronomy and Physics you would know that it is impossible to get to another galaxy. Even getting to the nearest star is incredibly difficult and we haven’t even got past the moon."

I think this is the same sentence told to students centuries ago about the possibility of getting to the moon. I wrote "scheming"--meaning planning our way or the possibility to create something to get us there. Our technology now still does not enable us to get past moon or Mars, but to say it's IMPOSSIBLE for us to get to another galaxy is also not correct, I think. Maybe it's impossible in OUR lifetime, but who knows what the future brings?

"No. You have this exactly the wrong way round. It is not the job of science to prove the non existence of something that any odd person thinks up. It would be up to that person to prove that the thing they are claiming does exist and to show the evidence for it."

I wrote in my response to Dan: there were mathematicians and physicists worked based on their colleagues claims on something. This is another analogy: you said it's impossible for us to get to another galaxy, and you are supported by many physicists and mathematicians in the time being, but there are also other physicists and mathematicians who are working to prove otherwise (that it is possible to get to another galaxy).
"This statement is just confused. How can someone in the past who didn’t know about atoms then think to themselves that atoms don’t exist? You can’t think about something if you don’t know about it."

That's the basic of discovery, I think. We look on phenomenons and try to materialize it based on a calculation. Scientists in the past did not know the existence of atoms and yet they think of how to calculate and measure phenomenons, such as light or radiation, and they finally conclude that there is this tiny particle constituting every material called atom. Human beings keep on searching for the unknowns.

"Again no. Scientists say ‘I think such and such is true, here is my evidence’."

Yes, but that is why we categorize "theory" and "postulate". We see a phenomenons and we could raise some theories to APPROACH it and there are postulate where it is already proven that this way is certain.

We don't know how the universe was first made. Although as a religious people, I believe God created it, I don't know HOW he created it. I could choose between theories offered by scientists: either He created it by the Nebula theory or the Big Bang theory, etc.

According to my knowledge, we're still uncertain of how the universe was created, although mostly scientists agree that Big Bang Theory fits the most probability.

So even though nebula scientists and big bang scientists provided evidence according to their knowledge, we still don't know for sure. And that is why I think science is not approached on something definitely known; rather, we develop something based on unknown phenomenon to provide explanation of the unknown to our logics.

Sorry if this is a misconception... hehehehehehehe... peace!
