Good overview of the progressive era and its end. It seems that the era of reform came and ended with the power of the corporation. This highlights both the value of the progressive movement and its failings--flawed people, naivity, lack of organizating, the Russian Revolution and its effect on American Society, and world War I and the brutality that caused people to reposition. Its sadly an echo to today, where we can see the progressives start to rise again.

Objectivism is just mean-spiritedness put through the wash of ideology and idealism.

Dickens wraps everything up so tightly if you like to study how a story can be put together you will find a clear example here. There are the elements that make you curl up in pain--way too much exposition and too much detail but a wonderful story set in the French revolution.

Hacker crime drama. Not a great literary work, but interesting in describing just how hackers broke into military computers in the 80s. Actually, a lot of the techniques described in the book still have holes in modern software.
