I loved this book passionately. Again, as I pointed out, it's interesting to see what this critic DOES like I'm making no judgements here, but I think perhaps someone who likes lighter fare, or books which offer less, might not appreciate a book like this which require so much more from the reader--and delivers more, too.
I agree with Bonna, that slamming a novel based on person taste doesn't really have a place here. This was a fabulous, literate book. This is why it's sometimes helpful to see what books the critic DOES like (I've seen slams of books I've loved by people who only like books that are light chick-lit--no judgement on my part, just an observation that someone who likes lighter books may not love a book that requires more from the reader--and delivers oh so much more in return.)
