A fantastic book-length interview that finds the pulse beneath the art of film and sound editing. I reread it every time I'm editing a project, and Walter Murch always gives me fresh insights and inspiration.

I really wish I liked this book more. The first 100 or so pages whizzed by thanks to a great hook. But the longer it went on, the thinner the story seemed, the more the characters felt like caricatures, and the less likely every single plot development became, until finally my suspension of disbelief hit eject.

Some of the dialogue is clever, but there's a razor-thin line between clever and cloying, and too often I found Green's writing on the wrong side of it. I'd love to hand those first 100 pages back to John Green and say, "Good start, now try again."
