The presumptive conclusion of the Codex Alera series successfully wraps up the main storyline while maintaining openings for a successor series. While the characterization, particularly in regards to the antagonist, is not as good as in volume 3, there are still some good moments and Jim Butcher continues to provide an impressive array of imaginative uses for this world's magic paradigm. Overall the series is strongly recommended. ]]>

A great entry in this series which sees the vast cast finally moving towards a common resolution. With strong dialog and solid action, this is an excellent entry in this series. ]]>

A great book that captures not only what Black Sabbath was saying but on why people listened. Told initially from the perspective of a troubled teenager, John Darnielle captures all of the frustration, anger, and poetry trapped inside your average 16 year old. Following up 10 years later with a mature, if damaged by the system, adult, Darnielle finds a way to articulate the teenager's frustrations in a way that his protagonist's younger self never could. An excellent, though brief, read, much like the eponymous album. ]]>
