I'm biased because I'm a huge fan of Frank Portman, but I think this is a good read. It's not like King Dork. It's dense - thick and tangled - like a teenager's mind. People complain that it's too esoteric and perhaps arcane with the level of detail about magick and the tarot, but it seemed really authentic to me. I identified with Andromeda and her obsession. (Mine was Lookout Records bands and British politics... we all have our quirks.) Once you let yourself become part of Andromeda's world, the book flows quite well. Librarians will hopefully appreciate the weeding subplot.

I read this because I've become sort of obsessed with the Leeds Revie/Clough saga. I also like any sort of book I can get about English football. This book was pretty middle of the road. The authors were clearly Leeds/Revie apologists, and seemed to fall in the "Leeds were victims!" line of thought. The writing was sort of clunky and the narrative got in the way of the story, but it wasn't so bad that I didn't finish reading it. It's not my favourite football book by any stretch of the imagination, but I guess it does a good job of telling the Leeds story. Too bad Dirty Dirty Leeds is rubbish now. ]]>
I know this book is a dramatized version of the real story. It was still a good read. Quick, engaging, and really showed how deep one of the most infamous clash of personalities in English football. I always knew Brian Clough was an icon, but this book helped me understand why.
I would recommend it for people who like laddish fiction or English football. If you don't like either, this probably won't be your thing. It's not to say you need to know the whole story, but you need to at least not despise the sport. ]]>
