I'm not sure that I will ever recover from this story.
It is absolutely heartbreaking and soul wrenching. I managed to fall asleep the night that I finished it, with great difficulty mind you, but it was the first thing on my mind as soon as I opened my eyes.
I'm not sure when I last hated a protagonist so much, and he was just a child...
Even with all that he went through at the end, I still don't think he redeemed his self and neither does he. That's the truest part of this story. Things do not always work out right. Sometimes you don't get the chance to say that you're sorry. And even when you try to fix it, you fall short.
I used to snark about happy endings and proclaim that more work should end unhappily. After reading some of the books that I have this year where the authors seemed to feel the same way, this one included, I'm reconsidering that notion. ]]>
