edit: Yep, couldn't wait for this book because I knew it'd be awesoOooome (read in singsong), and it was. I was in love with the Hollywood/glam/entertainment elements in India Lee's Hidden Gem series so HDU essentially slayed me. It goes deeper into the drama of the industry and is for an older set as our lead, Amanda Nathan, is in her twenties - specifically the early, post-grad twenties where you feel a lot of pressure to do shit with your life (hi, Amanda, me too). As far as protagonists go, I couldn't love her more. She's as good, loyal, brave and virtuous as a friend gets, and you will naturally root for her, feel nervous with her, triumphant with her, etc.

Oh, and I loved Liam. GOD, I LOVED LIAM. He made me laugh, blush, sigh - he had me at the first snarky email. I was giggly before he appeared physically, so I was right in Amanda's shoes when she went to actually meeting him and was a complete nervous wreck. Since they don't get off to the best start, you wonder all the more about how they'll fare in their big, publicity-driven fauxmance, and in her new life as a public figure - as the "normal girl" who "tamed" the playboy. Things of course get better (and hotter) between them, and you'll come to love them as a pair, but not so faaaast. Other highs and lows of crazy, glamorous, devastating and victorious nature follow in Amanda's celebrity life. And they involve a supporting cast of awesome, well-developed and equally lovable characters. We love Ian despite his flaws because underneath it all, he's a true and genuine friend. We can't help but be curious about Casey because she's that charismatic, cool girl that you just want to be friends with. And we looove to hate Megan. Love to. The juicy scenes involving her, Amanda and Liam were some of my favorites.

This book is just pure entertainment. It was like Entourage, if Entourage were a novel geared towards the chick-lit crowd. You get easily lost in this fictitious Hollywood world that Ms. Lee creates, and for Hidden Gem fans, you even get to see some minor characters from that series making appearances! Which was a lot of fun for me, as were those lovely articles, blog posts and comments peppered throughout to give us a sense of how the Internet world is taking all this. I couldn't have enjoyed this book more and I am very anxiously waiting for the sequel.
