Precious is one of the bravest characters I've met. She has an incredibly difficult life, illiterate and pregnant at 16 with her second child by her own father, beaten and sexually abused by her mother, yet she wants to learn. She wants to read and write and rise above those around her. She could easily go on welfare like her mother and simply exist but Precious wants to grow. She wants to live.

Wonderful holiday stories for the cynical. One thing I really liked about this book is the way the characters react to what is happening around them.
