After hearing others rave about the series, I have to say I was a little disappointed in the first book. I thought the writing was sophomoric. I found myself trying to rework the sentences when I really wanted to get lost in the book. I also had a hard time reconciling Sookie's age with her vernacular. Much of her terminology seemed "old-maid-ish" to me.
