I consider myself a science fiction aficionado. Bruce Sterling is one of the greats in the genre, but I had a tough time with this one and felt guilty for not liking it.
The story takes place in the future. Earth has seemingly become an ecological disaster. The book is broken into three sections each told from the perspective of three cloned sisters describing there lives and circumstances. Unfortunately, fifty pages in and I couldn't identify a central plot and I had trouble get invested enough in the characters. I dropped the book without finishing it.
However, I did enjoy the world Sterling created: The Croatian island of Mljet, laid waste by toxic dumping and the rising waters of global warming; Southern California is wracked by frequent t and massive earthquakes and a rising Pacific Ocean.
Unfortunately the setting alone could not maintain my interest.

A great read exploring the beginning, middle, and end of a global conflict against zombies as told through a series of interviews from the people witnessing the carnage first hand. If zombies are not your thing, this book is worth reading simply for its exploration into human behavior when faced with the collapse of civilization.
