The lyrical style of McCann's prose is excruciatingly beautiful at times, and yet still simple. I just wish the overall feel of the book didn't leave me so depressed. After finishing the last page, I automatically picked up something very light and fun for my next read. Still, I enjoyed the interwoven stories, and I know they will stay with me for quite a while to come.

While I enjoyed the return to Anita's crime-fighting roots and the step away from the overwhelming sexual content, I was very distracted by specific phrases that kept repeating throughout the almost 500 pages. Had the language just varied a tad more, I would have been even more engrossed than I was.
