I thought that this book started pretty slow... but it definitely picked up the pace, and really grabbed me by the end. I really enjoy Strouds storytelling. It is kind of like a story within a story. You get to learn about the past and the present simultaneously, until they are one in the same. I think that as a child-adolescent, this might be hard to reconcile. As an adult, I find it pure genius! I still prefer the Bartimeus triliogy, but still, I great story.

The book is lovely. It is witty and the characters keep you engaged. I think it would make a better screenplay, and it would not surprise me if it was made into a film starring Hugh Laurie. Much of the dialogue I could easily envision Mr. Laurie reciting. I could almost see him in the role. ]]>
